Normally, the film adaptations of beloved game series have often been disappointing for both critics and fans of the games. However, Uncharted 2 movie managed to stand out from the rest as a successful film adaptation.
Sony is excited about Uncharted 2 movie
Charles Roven, the producer of the first film, mentions that the publisher Sony Pictures is quite interested in the financial success of the film. The Uncharted movie received mixed reviews upon its release last year, but as you can imagine, the only aspect that concerns Sony is the $400 million revenue generated at the box office.
Since production and distribution companies care much more about how much money their films make than what critics say about them, a sequel to Uncharted has always been on the table.
Without giving too much away, in the ending of the Uncharted film, we saw Nathan and Sully in a scene reminiscent of the beginning of the first game’s story. So, the studio had already left the possibility open for a second film. Now, in an interview with the press, producer Roven confirmed that a sequel film will be developed at some point.
When asked specifically about the desire to continue the series, Roven replied, “Oh, absolutely! We had a really good time making the film. Fans really loved the film, and even people who knew nothing about the game really loved the film. So, we definitely want to make another one.”
In the Uncharted film, Tom Holland portrays the clever and charismatic adventurer Nathan Drake. Experienced actor Mark Wahlberg plays his mentor and partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan. In the first Uncharted game, the duo was quite young. But now, since the film depicts events before the first game, they are even younger here.
It will be interesting to see if Uncharted 2 film will be adapted from the first game in the series. It’s exciting to think about seeing characters like Elena Fisher and Sam Drake in the film and speculate about who will portray them. Are you excited for the Uncharted 2 movie?
